Before the pandemic, I was commuting 600 miles every other week and it was exhausting. The hotel staff knew me by name. It was time for a change.
On a winter trip to Florida, I came across an old sail in a vintage store... I didn't yet know the purpose for it, but knew I would find a way to give it a new life.
Months later, I came across that old sail in my basement and decided it would be perfect to make beach bags for holiday gifts for our family. We made the bags, they loved them... and Schooner Sacks was born.
The outside material, including pockets, come from reclaimed sails. The materials have a range of stiffness and perform differently, making each bag different. These sails have their own history...they had a prior life. Blemishes, prior repairs, and patches are included for free. The sail hardware and components are original and enhance the look of the design of every unique bag. The interior lining and pockets are mostly heavy canvas but properties vary. They are paired with the sail material to produce a product that performs in every environment. The lining materials are all unique to enhance the design of each bag. All bags have swivel snap closures to secure your contents.
Sails are cleaned with an exclusive process. our construction process matches materials for the best performance of the bag, creating a one of a kind bag. Every bag is hand cut to size and assembled and sewn individually. Rope handles are secured with grommets. Bags have boxed corners to add width at the bottom of the bag. Pockets are a combination of materials, including sail material and different linings.
